Sergiu Pușcuța: Moldova is already eligible to receive second tranche of macro-financial assistance

Deputy Prime Minister Sergiu Pușcuța, Minister of Finance, said the Republic of Moldova is already eligible to get the second tranche of the macro-financial assistance from the EU. Moldova fulfilled all the conditions in this regard, but it is not known when this money will be disbursed, IPN reports.

“One of the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Moldova to get the first tranche is being fulfilled and will be fully implemented in one-two weeks. The bill was drafted and is to be presented to the Government. As regards the second tranche of the macro-financial assistance, we can now say with certitude that all the conditions that formed part of the mutual commitments were met by the Moldovan side and the Republic of Moldova is already eligible to get the second tranche,” Sergiu Pușcuța stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

According to him, a mission of the European Union is expected to come to Moldova this week to examine what was done and to determine what is yet to be done to get the macro-financial assistance. “I refer to the second tranche and to the third tranche that is anyway on the agenda,” explained the minister.

He also said that the existence of an agreement with the International Monetary Fund is a related condition for disbursing the second tranche of the macro-financial assistance. This agreement is valid until March 20. A new agreement with the IMF will be eventually needed for the third tranche.

The next negotiations on a new cooperation program with the IMF will last for at least four months or for even half a year. “I can presume that the signing of a new cooperation agreement with the IMF will be a condition for disbursing the third tranche of the EU macro-financial assistance to the Republic of Moldova. The conditions for the second tranche have been fulfilled,” said Sergiu Pușcuță.

He noted there is yet one more condition, which is political and which does not depend on the adopted laws or concrete figures, but is assessed in an unknown way. “I think the mission that is now working in the Republic of Moldova on the issue of macro-financial assistance will be concerned with this aspect too,” noted the minister.
