Sergiu Ostaf: Theft at BEM will be used in election campaign

Some of the political parties will widely use the subject of the theft committed at Baca de Economii (BEM) in the election campaign in order to gain electoral advantages, executive director of the Resource Center for Human Rights Sergiu Ostaf said in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.

Ostaf said the failures of the current government will be the second subject used by the extraparliamentary parties and the opposition ones in the campaign prior to the local elections. “Given that the ruling parties achieved no concrete results, the other parties that will become involved in the electoral race will fully explore this theme and will level criticism at the government. This tactic will be also used in respect of the local public authorities that didn’t manage to achieve results during their tenure,” he stated.

Asked to make forecasts concerning the results of the elections in Chisinau, Sergiu Ostaf said it is yet premature as the situation is not clear. “Zinaida Grecheanyi discredited herself during the April 2009 events. Octavian Ticu is not well known. Therefore, Dorin Chirtoaca remains the candidate with the biggest chances of winning,” he said.

Editorialist Nicolae Negru said there is a risk that the geopolitical factor will be again broadly used in the election campaign. “This election campaign was started immediately after the parliamentary elections. A number of parties bank on the post of mayor of Chisinau. There will stiff be competition between the parties of the left and those of the right. Thus, the struggle for the mayoralty of Chisinau could be based on the geopolitical factor,” he stated.
