Sergiu Ostaf: President Timofti could be influenced

President Nicolae Timofti could be influenced by the people who intend to take to the streets on January 13 in his decision as regards the nomination of the candidate for Prime Minister, Sergiu Ostaf, director of the Resource Center for Human Rights (CReDO), said in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.

The CReDO director noted the head of state should resist the influence when nominating the candidate for premiership. “Even if there are 100,000 people out, the head of state should withstand the pressure. He should comply with the constitutional norms. The protesters could demand that the taxes should be cut. But the President cannot satisfy such a demand or the demand to expel people of a particular color for example. Protesters’ demands not always can be justified,” said Sergiu Ostaf.

Representatives of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” and sympathizers of the Democratic Party planned to stage large-scale protests in central Chisinau today, January 13.
