The public scandal following the share thefts at a number of banks arouse only because European citizens were involved in this case. It would have been neglected if the author of the raider attacks – First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc – hadn’t made a big mistake, the leader of the Antimafia Movement Sergiu Mocanu said in a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo on September 14. “The scandal around the raider attacks committed by Plahotniuc would have been passed over if Vlad Plahotniuc hadn’t made a fatal mistake for him. When he planned this scenario, he was sure that the shares stolen from Moldova Agoindbank belonged to Moldovans, while the Slovenians were only interposed persons. This mistake was made not accidentally. This plan was suggested to Plahotniuc and he acted like this,” said Sergiu Mocanu. He considers that the managers of the attacked institutions are accomplices in these attacks. The leader of the Antimafia Movement stated that Vlad Plahotniuc will try by all means to return those shares to the European citizens, not yet to the Moldovan citizens. “He will continue to rob the Moldovans. He hopes he will be left alone if he gives the shares back to the foreign citizens,” said Mocanu. He also said that an international commission of inquiry should be set up to deal with the raider attacks on different companies, not only from the banking system. Sergiu Mocanu expressed his certitude that the international organizations will investigate these cases. “It may happen that the third person in the state (Vlad Plahotniuc) will be handcuffed when going out of Moldova,” said Mocanu. He denied the reports that he acted by order of Prime Minister Vlad Filat, as Vlad Plahotniuc said earlier. “This personage (Vlad Plahotniuc) is in panic. Neither Vlad Filat nor Vladimir Voronin react appropriately to what Plahotniuc does. Vladimir Voronin still hopes to return to power, while Vlad Filat takes one step forward and two steps backward. I don’t understand why he makes such a fuss when the Ministry of the Interior that he controls can not only furnish information, but also take attitude,” said Sergiu Mocanu. The raider attacks targeted four banks and an insurance company. It is said that a 27.5% holding in Moldova Agroindbank, 78%of the shares in Universalbank, 17% of the shares in Banca de Economii and a 5% holding in Victoriabank were appropriated through offshore companies.
