Sergiu Mocanu: My son’s conviction represents system’s revenge against me

The leader of the Anti-Mafia Movement Sergiu Mocanu asserts that the conviction of his sons Adrian and Roman represents a revenge taken by the system against him. “It is the result of the election of a puppet-President representing the most corrupt system,” Sergiu Mocanu said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “After three years and a half, judge Miron Ala of the Rascani Court passed a decision convicting my sons in a case started by the personal order of Voronin and fully fabricated by the servants of the regime created by him, which is kept intact by the current regime,” said Sergiu Mocanu. Under the decision of the court, Roman and Adrian Mocanu were found guilty of hooliganism and are to pay by a fine of 10,000 lei each. “This conviction is aimed at making me silent. It is a proof of the fact that the system created by Voronin and inherited by Plahotniuc – Filat works irreproachably. I still have to struggle to completely rehabilitate my sons and to punish those who fabricated this case,” said the leader of the Anti-Mafia Movement. Sergiu Mocanu stated that he exerted no pressure on judge Ala Miron and did not reveal details about this case so that the court took a correct decision. “Nobody can blame me now for exerting pressure on the court. But I do no more trust our justice. I will appeal the decision to the Court of Appeals, which is also controlled by Plahotniuc, and then to the Supreme Court of Justice. Only this way can I reach the ECHR and rehabilitate me and my sons,” he said. He also said that there is incontestable evidence that the young man about whom they said was hit by the Mocanu brothers was in fact beaten elsewhere and on another day, but the judge did not take the proofs into account. Roman said he does not know the victim. According to him, the young man came to the hearings two times and was probably convinced by somebody to give testimony against them. Sergiu Mocanu’s sons were charged with causing of serious bodily injuries in 2008. Their father asked the Government of Romania to provide refuge and Roman and Adrian were allowed to stay on the territory of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau. According to Sergiu Mocanu, as there was no evidence the case was later modified and the brothers were accused of acts of hooliganism.
