Sergiu Litvinenco: We demand to ensure transparency in case of Stoianoglo

Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco reiterated President Maia Sandu’s message, saying that they ask the prosecutor in charge of the case to ensure maximum transparency and observance of the procedures in the case of Stoianoglo. Litvinenco noted that prosecutor Victor Furtună, who was assigned by the Superior Council of Prosecutors to examine MP Lilian Carp’s complaint, was chosen because he showed to be courageous while working in the prosecution service. The Ministry of Justice said the reports that Viorel Morari manages from behind the developments in the case of Stoianoglo are false, IPN reports.

Sergiu Litvinenco denied any accusation that the former anticorruption prosecutor Viorel Morari agreed on the complaint filed by Lilian Carp to the Superior Council of Prosecutors with decision makers of the Party of Action and Solidarity, saying that he has never interacted with Morari.

“I have never discussed with Viorel Morari and do not want to discuss with him as this is suspected of committing a number of irregularities during the regime of Plahotniuc. The accusations against him should be clarified. In the case of Stoianoglo, we demanded to ensure correctness, transparency and observance of the procedures. It is important that the prosecution ensures transparently or there will be no trust,” Sergiu Litvinenco stated in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

The minister noted that he does not know who of the SCP members proposed assigning Victor Furtună to deal with the accusations made against Stoianoglo, but he considers Furtună’s decision to take legal action against the suspended prospector general is very courageous.

“I heard about prosecutor Furtună in the meeting of the Superior Council of Prosecutors. One of the Council members said that he interacted with Furtună in 2015 and had a good impression of him. Only this was said about Furtună. I don’t remember who proposed him. The fact that he arrested the most odious prosecutor of the time of Plahotniuc, Nicolae Chitoroagă, made me vote for Furtună as he seemed courageous to me. In the case of Stoianoglo, the prosecutor also showed courage,” stated Litvinenco.

The suspended Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo was remanded in custody for 72 hours and was then placed under house arrest for a 30-day period. He is accused of signing the report to a bill that facilitated the Russian Laundromat when he chaired the parliamentary commission on national security, defense and public order. Stoianoglo is also accused of taking US$5.5 million from Veaceslav Platon for making sure that this is set free. Yesterday, the suspended deputy prosecutor general Ruslan Popov was also placed under house arrest for 30 days on unjust enrichment charges. Popov and Stoianoglo plead not guilty.
