International master Sergiu Bargan, Moldova’s former chess champion, has won the tournament Chess Federation Cup 2018. The competition was held at the Chess Club in Chisinau during April 25-29 and brought together 54 players, 52 of whom with the Elo FIDE rating, and ten masters of sport, IPN reports.
Sergiu Bargan scored 7 points out of 9 possible, with five victories and four draws. FIDE master Alexandru Ogleznev ranked second with 6.5 points. FIDE master Liviu Cherbulenko, Moldova’s ex-champion, ranked third also with 6.5 points.
The women’s rankings are topped by Moldova’s multiple chess champion, grand master Svetlana Petrenko. The experienced international master Victor Romkovici emerged victorious among the veterans.
Leon Revenko from Chisinau ranked first among the players with ELO <2000, while Alexandru Scurtu from Rybnitsa was the first among players with ELO<1700. The juniors’ award went to Iurie Miron.
