Serghei Cebotari found not guilty by Court of Appeals

Sergiu Cebotari, former chief internal auditor at "Poșta Moldovei", was acquitted todaybsy the Chisinau Court of Appeals. This reverses the district court's ruling that sentenced Sergiu Cebotari, in absentia, to eight years of imprisonment on several charges.

Previously, Sergiu Cebotari said that he had notified the law enforcement bodies about smuggling schemes with anabolics, who eventually persecuted him, even arrested him while he was going to Parliament to present the evidence.

Contacted by IPN, Angela Istrate, Sergiu Cebotari's lawyer, answered that the court of appeal acquitted Sergiu Cebotari of committing the crimes that were incriminated. Cebotari will return to the country. "The Court of Appeals admitted our appeal, acquitted Sergiu Cebotari, rehabilitated him and canceled his imprisonment sentence applied by the first instance court”, the lawyer said.

The decision of the Court of Appeals may be appealed within two months.

Previously,  Sergiu Cebotari, former "Poșta Moldovei" deputy chief, was sentenced by the Ungheni Court, on March 20, 2019, to eight years of imprisonment on several charges, among which fraud and forced labor which involved several victims. Under the same sentence, Cebotari was deprived of the right to hold administrative functions and to perform entrepreneurial activity over the course of four years. Additionally, he was ordered to pay almost 308 thousand lei to the injured parties.
