Weightlifter Sergey Cechir so far scored the best result among the Moldovan athletes competing at the Rio Olympics. The 25-year-old sportsman ranked seventh in the 69 kg class, IPN reports.
Sergey Cechir lifted 144 kg in snatch and 178 kg in clean and jerk. Overall, the athlete trained by Sergiu Cretu lifted 322 kg. For his result, Cechir will be awarded 300,000 lei by the Government of Moldova.
Moldovan weightlifter Alexandru Spac enters the contest today, August 10. He will compete in the up to 77 kg class. Weightlifter Natalia Prishchepa will contend in the 75 kg class.
