Independent candidate Sergei Yeremeiko has won the mayoral election in Ilyichovca commune of Florești district in the runoff vote. According to the preliminary results announced by the Central Election Commission, Yeremeiko obtained 233 votes, i.e. 53.81% of the vote, defeating Fyodor Belyi, who obtained 200 votes (46.19%), IPN reports.
For the election to be considered valid, at least 20% of the voters registered on the electoral rolls had to go to the polls, and the candidate who obtained more than half of the valid votes cast was declared the winner.
The results are still preliminary and their official validation will take place after all the documents are received from the lower electoral authorities.
