Among the weightlifters who took part in the Rio Olympic Games, only Sergei Cechir competed in the national championship last weekend. He emerged victorious in the 69kg class, where Ion Terna and Mihai Cozma also climbed on to the winner’s rostrum, IPN reports.

In the absence of Alexandru Spac, Andrei Barca from Chisinau became a winner in the 77kg class. A surprise was witnessed in the 85kg class, where 17-year-old Tudor Ciobanu from Falesti won the final, profiting from the absence of Alexandru Dudoglo. In the women’s competition, Ecaterina Tretiacova won the 75kg class, given the absence of Natalia Prishchepa.

Among champions were also Daniel Lungu, Iurii Dudoglo, Alexandru Satalnic, Adrian Motical and Ion Vascari. This year’s national weightlifting championship involved 70 athletes.
