Serafim Urecheanu: Local election results in Chisinau show that voters want changes

The leader of the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance Party, former mayor general of Chisinau Serafim Urecheanu says that the results of the local elections in the Chisinau municipality show that the voters want changes, even if unknown. Urecheanu told Info-Prim Neo that the votes obtained by Dorin Chirtoaca are the vote of protest of the electorate, which has not yet identified a candidate that deserves to hold the post of mayor general of the capital and decided to give their votes in exchange for changes. Speaking about the results achieved by AMN, the leader of the party said that he expected better results in Chisinau, but it was the voter to decide. He also said that AMN made everything possible to conduct a decent election campaign with modest resources, but many irregularities were identified during the election campaign and on Election Day. Yet, they cannot influence the final election results. According to Urecheanu, the international and national organisations spotted such infringements as: exertion of pressure on the Opposition candidates, their intimidation and firing, the voter rolls were not placed 20 days before the elections as provided in the Electoral Code, the additional rolls included more than 8% of voters, the payment of the voters for choosing a certain candidate etc. The AMN leader says that the party is now preparing a synthesis of the violations, which will be made known to the general public. At the same time, even if the AMN results in the capital are poorer that in 2003, Urecheanu is optimistic because the party placed the second in the ranking that includes all Moldova’s settlements with 15% in the local councils and 17% for the posts of mayors.
