The leader of Moldova Noastra Alliance, Serafim Urecheanu, former mayor general of the Chisinau City congratulated Dorin Chirtoaca, as well as the Liberal Party, and the entire democrat-oriented forces, for the symbolic and decisive victory he gained by being elected as Mayor General. “As the predecessor of this public office, I am keen to thank you for offering an alternative which is so required for concentrating and expressing the will of the capital’s electorate with democratic views” the congratulation message reads. At the same time, Urecheanu states that the mandate given to Chirtoaca by the Chisinau inhabitants is marking Moldova’s reintegration process into the European Civilisation and Democracy territory. “We are living today a change, nourished obviously also by the team’s efforts, which turned Moldova’s capital city into an island of democracy”, Urecheanu says. The leader of Moldova Noastra Alliance also mentions that he left at the Chisinau Mayoralty the rank of general mayor which the Chisinau inhabitants refused to offer to anyone else for 2 years, and is handing over this symbolic baton to the newly elected by the net majority mayor. Within the second round voting of June 17, Dorin Chirtoaca got over 61% of the currently expressed votes, outrunning easily the Communist Party’s candidate, Veaceslav Iordan.
