September 1 festivities to proceed ‘as usual’ in Chisinau schools

This year’s festivities marking the start of the new school year on September 1 will take place “as usual” in Chisinau’s schools, stated Mayor Ion Ceban at the City Hall’s meeting on Monday.

“September 1 festivities and ceremonies will proceed this year as usual. I will myself attend one at a school that we are opening after reconstruction”, said the mayor.

Boris Gîlca, head of Health Care and Social Assistance, said Covid cases have been on the decrease lately. “Obviously we will start the school year with full consideration for epidemiological safety rules and in keeping with doctors’ recommendations”, said the official.

Andrei Pavaloi, deputy head of the General Directorate of Education, reported that over 12,000 children in Chisinau will start school this year.

After the ceremony, the first festive lesson will be devoted to the “Year of Gratitude”, to remember the fallen heroes of the 1992 Independence War.

150 primary and secondary education institutions operate in the municipality of Chisinau, including 19 private education institutions and 59 educational institutions with financial autonomy. Also, there are 167 functional preschool education institutions: 154 early education institutions, 7 general education institutions and 6 private education institutions with preschool groups.
