In ATU Gagauzia, 2025 was declared the year to celebrate "80 years since the Victory in the Great Patriotic War". However, at national level, the Moldovan authorities declared 2025 the "Year of Mihai Eminescu”, IPN reports.
On her Telegram channel, Bashkan Evgenia Guțul announced the Executive Committee of Gagauzia’s decision and noted that this year will be significant for everyone. "Our children and grandchildren must know about the horrors of war and the heroism of our ancestors thanks to whom we live in peace and harmony today," Guțul explained.
On December 26, 2024, the Parliament adopted a draft decision to declare 2025 the "Year of Mihai Eminescu”. In a month after this decision was taken, on Wednesday, January 22, a separate decision was made in Comrat, according to which, in ATU Gagauzia, "2025 is dedicated to the 80th anniversary since the Victory in the Great Patriotic War".
Contacted by IPN for a comment, the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă said that in 2025, according to the Parliament's decision and the Government's action plan, "the whole country celebrates Mihai Eminescu, the poet who united millions of people through his works."
As for the decision by the Executive Committee of ATU Gagauzia, it will be examined, explained Daniel Vodă, so as "to ensure that it complies with the legal framework." He noted that Eminescu's works are translated into Gagauz as well, and the high school in Comrat bears his name: "Mihai Eminescu is a symbol that inspires us to build together a modern and united Moldova – through culture, not through division," the Government’s spokesman told IPN.
