Senor state officials commemorate victims of September 11 attacks

Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu and Prime Minister Pavel Filip laid flowers near the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau in memory of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States that claimed the lives of almost 3,000 persons from 90 countries, IPN reports.

On September 11, 2011, two of the four hijacked airliners hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York. Another plane was crashed into the Pentagon in Virginia, while the fourth plane crashed into a field without hitting the target.

“The terrorist attacks in the United States had a global impact. These struck many states. Regrettably, there are yet many victims of terrorism globally and compassion, understanding, solidarity and mobilization are needed to counteract this phenomenon. Each year we come here to be near the citizens of the U.S. and all the people who were affected,” stated Andrian Candu.

The Premier also condemned the attacks committed 17 years ago, saying these led to the combination of efforts in the fight against a terrible phenomenon that has no moral justification. “The attacks of 2001 changed the people’s perception of terrorism and the whole world mobilized as such crimes can be combatted only by concerted effort,” stated Pavel Filip.

The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were claimed by Al Qaeda.
