Senior state officials lay flowers at “Eternity” Memorial Complex

The senior state officials laid flowers at the Grieving Mother Monument at the Memorial Complex “Eternity” in Chisinau. “We today commemorate those who were killed in the Nistru war. The armed conflict that took place 30 years ago aimed to suppress the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. We lost hundreds of lives in this war, while other hundreds of people were hurt,” stated President Maia Sandu. “On the Memory and Gratitude Day, we remember the sacrifice of these people and bow our heads before them and their families.”

The official noted it is important that the new generations keep the memory of those times alive, while the state should not forget the war veterans, the participants in the war for defending the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova. A bill that stipulates a number of support measures for veterans was registered in Parliament.

“As shelling is again heard close to our borders in 30 years of the Nistru wart, we made a call for an immediate ceasefire. We made a call for peace. Only in times of peace we can build a peaceful and thriving European country here, on our land. This is the choice of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. I also make a call to the people from the left side of the Nistru. The Republic of Moldova is our country, of all of us. We want and can build together a society in which people with different opinions can cohabit peacefully, without conflicts, and in which we should live freely and with respect for each other,” said President Sandu, being quoted by IPN.

On March 2, it has been 30 years of the start of the war for defending the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova. Almost 300 people were killed in this war, while 370 were hurt and remained disabled.
