Senior state officials and a number of politicians gave their condolences to the family of academician Alexandru Ciubotaru, who was the founder of the Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and a scientist famous in the country and abroad, IPN reports.
“In these sad moments of grief, not only for the academic community, but also for the whole society, we express our profound regret at the death of academician Alexandru Ciubotaru, who was a renowned scientist and exceptional professor, who dedicated his whole life to science, knowledge and development of the country, remaining for those who knew him a man with high moral and intellectual qualities,” says the obituary released by the Government.
The Republic of Moldova lost an illustrious scientist in embryology, cardiology, cytogenetics and vegetal biotechnology, specialist with special merits in designing and laying out green areas, parks and botanical gardens. The academician dedicated 60 years of his life to scientific research, making a significant contribution to the development of biological science. He has over 750 scientific publications, including 26 monographs.
For prodigious work and profound research, the scientist was awarded the Order of the Republic and the Order “Stefan cel Mare si Sfant”, the titles “Emeritus Man of the Republic of Moldova”, Doctor Honoris Causa of the Iasi University “Al. I. Cuza” and Knight of the Order “Labor Glory”, First-Degree Diploma of the Government of Moldova, Medal “Dimitrie Cantemir” and others.
The scientist died at the age of 85 on April 26.
On April 28, between 2pm and 3:30pm, the academician’s body will be lying on the first floor of the administrative block of the Botanical Garden, which is located at 18 Padurii St, while after 4pm will be laid at the Church “Saint Pious Teodora de la Sihla” situated at 20 A Pushkin St. The scientist is buried at the Central Cemetery on Armeneasca St in Chisinau at 10am on April 29.
