The head of the criminal police division of the Leova Police Commissariat was sentenced to three years in jail and deprived of the right to hold public posts in the law enforcement bodies for a period of three years, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the General Prosecutor’s Office. The Leova Court found him guilty of misuse of power after he used violence against a resident of Tochile Raducani village. According to the prosecutors, on November 19, 2007, the policeman arrested the man without well-founded reasons, took him to the Police Commissariat by force and drew up a false report over an administrative offence against him. Afterward, the police officer kicked and punched the man. The court put him on a probation period of two years out of the three. The sentence can be appealed to the Supreme Court.
