Senior administration offers condolences to Uzbek people

President Nicolae Timofti, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu and Prime Minister Pavel Filip transmitted a message of condolence in connection with the death of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to the Karimov family and the Uzbek people, IPN reports.

“We found out with profound sadness about the death of His Excellence, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, who contributed essentially to the initiation and promotion of relations of friendship and cooperation between our states. A leader of the Republic of Uzbekistan in difficult times, a symbol of the struggle for the country’s freedom and independence and a promoter of progress for the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov will remain in the memory of generations as one of the most important personalities of the contemporary history of Uzbekistan,” reads the message.

“We want to transmit this way the most sincere condolences and our profound regret to the Karimov family and the whole Uzbek people.”

Islam Karimov is the first President of Uzbekistan elected after the declaration of independence in 1991. He had managed the country for 25 years.
