The chairman of the Thursday meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council, June 15, Victor Odobescu, promised that the decision draft on selling 10 buildings of the capital to certain private education institutions, which at the moment rent these buildings, will be included on the agenda of the next meeting of the Council, as reply to the petition of the chairman of the faction Alliance „Moldova Noastra”, Pavel Caba. Caba did not insist to include this item in the agenda of this meeting, but said that its re-examination cannot be postponed, as by July 1, these institutions might be left without licenses because of the lack of own buildings, and at the beginning of the school year about 10,000 pupils will not have where to learn. Caba also mentioned that 1,200 teachers work in these institutions, and their budgetary defalcations are about 50 million lei annually. On 28 February 2006, the councilors rejected the possibility to sell the buildings, as they considered the decision draft has some risks and disadvantages for the municipality. The interim mayor of the capital, Vasile Ursu, was concerned about the fact that the buildings rented were previously kindergartens, which the capital will loose. The International Management Institute IMI-Nova, Moldovan-Turkish, „Socrate”, „Evrica”, „Petrenco”, „Elitex”, „Prometeu”, „Columna” Lyceums, Private Moldovan-Turkish Gymnasium and Modern Language School are the institutions which rent the buildings. As result of selling the buildings, the municipal budget would be completed with about 27 million lei, used for development of the technical-material base of the public education system of the municipality. The need to sell these buildings appeared as result of a governmental decision of December 2004, by which, in order to prolong the activity licenses, private education institutions shall have until July 2006 own rooms. There are other 24 institutions of this type in Chisinau municipality.
