Security Zone residents urged to yield up guns held illegally
The Joint Control Commission (JCC) calls on the inhabitants of the Security Zone from both sides of the Nistru River to voluntarily yield up the guns and munitions kept illegally, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communiqué, the Commission says that in accordance with the agreement on the peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in the Transnistrian region of July 21, 1992, measures are being taken to identify and seize the arms and munitions held illegally by the population. As a result of such acts, the number of offenses involving firearms has considerably decreased.
In order to avoid possible serious cases resulting from the uncontrolled circulation of munitions in the Security Zone, the JCC calls upon the residents living on both banks of the Nistru to cede the military weapons, explosives and other banned devices to the law enforcement bodies and the peacekeepers.
The persons who yield up the munitions voluntarily are exempted from criminal or administrative responsibility.
The Joint Control Commission voices hope that the implementation of these measures will allow substantially reducing the illegal circulation of military weapons in the Security Zone and increasing thus the level of stability and the trust between the sides.
