The June 17 meeting of the Supreme Security Council called by President Nicolae Timofti does not have the situation in the Transnistrian region in the agenda. Contacted by IPN, politologist Eduard Tugui, expert in the Transnistrian issue, said the Council’s agenda is at least strange, given the latest development in the region.
“Attempts and provocations have been staged on the left side of the Nistru. If the Council in this period discusses the situation in the banking system and its organizational form and composition, ignoring these problems in the Security Zone, I’m skeptical that its new composition will be functional,” said the politologist.
Eduard Tugui also said it seems improper to him for the agenda of the Supreme Security Council not to include Tiraspol’s decision to delimit the so-called border by swallowing up several Moldovan-administered settlements. “I know that Parliament will hold a special sitting on the issue, but the Council should also discuss it,” stated the expert.
The Supreme Security Council is to discuss the reformation of the Council and modernization of the Information and Security Service.
Last week, the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk signed a so-called bill on the ‘state border’ of Transnistria. The border includes Bender town and three villages, among which Varnita, which are within the jurisdiction of the constitutional authorities. The official Chisinau declared that Tiraspol’s decision runs counter to the legal framework and the logic of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process.
