The Supreme Security Council has identified buying natural gas “at the most advantageous prices on the market” and building up sufficient reserves as top priorities for this year. Convened by President Maia Sandu on Thursday, the Council took stock of the situation in the energy sector and formulated recommendations for the relevant authorities.
While no press statements were made immediately after the meeting, the President’s Office issued a press release saying the meeting discussed the measures taken to ensure gas and electricity supplies in the coming period, the progress made on major energy infrastructure projects, and also energy efficiency programs.
After being briefed by relevant authorities, the Council came up with a series of decisions and recommendations. The government needs to be prepared to provide consumers with continuous access to energy resources, including gas, electricity and heat in any conditions and any regional context. Also, if necessary, to be ready to provide support to vulnerable groups.
“Thanks to efforts made by the authorities, Moldova is strengthening its energy security, and, in any scenario, the competent institutions will be able to deliver electricity and heat to the citizens in the next heating season”, reads the presidential press release.
