Security Council met to discuss Airport concession

President Maia Sandu on Friday convoked the Supreme Security Council to discuss issues related to the concession of the Chisinau Airport. No press statements were made after the meeting ended late in the evening, but a press release issued subsequently by the President’s Office said the Council heard representatives of agencies responsible for investigating the controversial concession.

The meeting focused on the progress made since the subject was last discussed by the Council back in February. “Among the recommendations made by CSS has been (for the relevant agencies) to complete the assessment of the damage caused by the Airport’s takeover. It has also been recommended that the security of this strategic establishment, which is a gateway to the country, and the security of the citizens who use the services of the Airport, be ensured by agencies that do not depend financially on the concession holders”, says the press release, which doesn’t say however if any progress has been made on these recommendations.

Back in February, President Sandu was telling reporters that prosecutors were on the homestretch with the Airport concession probe, which would soon go to court. The president also asked the Public Property Agency to speed up proceedings for terminating the concession in court.
