Security and Intelligence Service should be reformed, statements

The Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) should be reformed so that it really becomes an institution that ensures the security of the state and the people. Such conclusions were formulated in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Valentin Dediu, ex-acting director of the SIS, considers both the image and the areas of activity of the SIS should be changed. “The SIS must not have the image of political police. Work should be done to change its image. On the other hand, the emphases in its activity should be changed. The SIS should not deal with Moldova’s waters or tax evasion at a time when other institutions deal with security problems,” he stated.

Valeriu Ostalep, director of the Institute of Diplomatic, Political and Security Studies, also thinks the SIS should be reformed, especially as regards its work. “I’m sure that 80% of our rulers do not know what the SIS deals with specifically. This institution should ensure the people’s safety,” he said.

Mihai Godea, chairman of the “Democratic Action” Party, noted the SIS didn’t undergo changes, as other institutions did. “The SIS followed the path to reformation in a more precautious way. Running such an institution implies costs, while its reformation it is even more expensive. It is yet known that the SIS has always been the Cinderella of the budget, compared with other rule of law institutions,” he stated.
