After the decision to declare a state of emergency was invalidated by the Constitutional Court, the Republic of Moldova returns to the state of public health emergency, said the secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Igor Curov. According to the official, the restrictions will be imposed by the local commissions depending on the number of cases recorded by each territorial-administrative unit. The wearing of masks in closed and open places remains mandatory all over the country, IPN reports.
According to secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the institution of the state of emergency at national level contributed significantly to reducing the number of infections. After the annulment of the state of emergency, the state of public health emergency is restored.
“Over 2,000 persons are now in hospitals, as opposed to 4,500 a month ago. We have very good dynamics owing to this state of emergency and to the fact that the restrictions were obeyed. With the introduction of the state of public health emergency, the previously announced measures will continue to be applied. The wearing of masks, maintaining of physical distancing and hand hygiene remain mandatory. As regards the restrictions in territorial-administrative units that are on red alert, these will be decided by the local commission,” Igor Curov stated in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.
Specialists anticipate an increase in the number of infections with SARS-COV-2 in the second half of May. They recommend being extremely precautious during the Easter holidays and avoiding crowded places, including the churches where services are held inside and outside.
“We are not sure that the citizens will behave responsibly during the holidays. It has been over a year of pandemic. The people are tired and need family reunions and there is a risk that we will have again an increase in the number of infections after Easter. We should not relax as we will be able to speak about the relaxing of restrictions only when the vaccination rate is of 70%,” said epidemiologist Angela Paraschiv.
The municipality of Chisinau decided that the cemeteries on the Sunday of the Dead that this year is celebrated on May 9-10 will be closed.
