On Thursday, June 1, starts the second stage of viaduct’s reconstruction uniting the Center and Botanica districts of Chisinau. During the works, lasting 2.5 months, the vehicles will circulate in both directions on the free track. According to the deputy head of Public Transport and Communications Department, Alexei Varlan, the works will last until August 15because of the big work volume, including strengthening of the bridge’s resistance system, asphalting and other works. Thus, the whole carriage will be repaired, and the metallic elements will be substituted by modern ones of rubber and metal. These will strengthen the bridge, and also will be more suitable for exploitation. The reparation will cost the local budget 13 million lei or about 1 million USD. The reconstruction of the bridge started in August 2005. On Chisinau Day Celebrations one of the renewed tracks was opened. After this event the works continued one more additional month, as long as the weather allowed it. The bridge has a length of 1,600 meters and is made of 3 bridges, of 120, 300 and 465 meters, as well as two ramblers uniting them.
