Second round of voting in two villages
A second round of voting will take place in two of the three villages that held local elections on November 15. The inhabitants of Larguta village of Cantemir district and of Stefanesti village of Stefan Voda district will try again to elect their mayors in two weeks, the secretary of the Central Election Commission Iurie Ciocan has told Info-Prim Neo.
In Semionovca village of Stefan Voda district, the mayor was elected in the first round. Independent candidate Zenovia Zolotuhina polled the highest number of votes, beating the other four contenders. The turnout was 59.7% of the 619 voters written in the rolls.
In Larguta, the voter turnout was 47.33% - 947 of the 2,001 voters, while in Stefanesti – 57.5% - 541 of the 940 voters. A new round of voting will take place in the two villages on November 29.
A sum of 44,770 lei was allocated for organizing the local elections on November 15. There were printed 3,532 ballots – 2,913 in the state language and 619 in Russian.
New local elections were held because mayors’ terms expired beforehand. In Larguta and Stefanesti villages, the mayors were given suspended sentences, while the mayor of Semionovca passed away.
