The teacher training universities and colleagues will be able to access, on a contest basis, funds for investments in infrastructure and for modernizing the contents taught to students. The Ministry of Education and Research launched the second call for project proposals within the World Bank-funded Moldova Higher Education Project. At the second stage of the contest, the financing will total over €10.4 million, IPN reports. 

Compared with the first stage of the project, the maximum sum of financing that can be accessed by higher educational institutions was raised. Universities will be able to get at most €3.5 million, as opposed to €2.15 million earlier. The highest limit for colleagues remained at last year’s level - €900,000, Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topală told a news conference.

The money from these projects could be invested in outfitting laboratories and research centers, in adjusting and modernizing the contents taught in colleagues and universities.

The area of priority areas was extended, being supplemented with specialties of exact sciences, agricultural sciences and veterinary medicine.

The eligibility criteria remained the same. The applicant must be a public legal entity registered in the Republic of Moldova, have accredited academic programs in the relevant areas, not be in the process of reorganization, etc. The colleagues must have accredited academic programs in teacher training, at least 50% of the teachers with teaching degree, etc.

The deadline for applications is June 30. The assessment will be completed by August 1 and decisions concerning the winning projects will be adopted by September 1. The projects will be implemented until 2025.

Last year, the authorities provided over 14 million for €10 infrastructure and content modernization projects of 13 universities and colleagues. More than half of this sum went to teacher training educational institutions.
