There days remained until the expiration of the second October 15 deadline for paying the property tax (the tax on land and buildings), Info-Prim Neo reports. The property tax can be paid fully or in two equal installments: by August 15 and by October 15. Stela Gutu, the deputy head of the State Main Tax Inspectorate's Local Taxes and Duties Division, said that 170 million lei had been transferred to the budgets of the territorial administrative units by October 1. The land tax represented about 116 million lei of this sum, while the tax on buildings – 54 million lei. The January-September plan was 99% fulfilled. “It is a good result if taking into account the fact that a large part of the taxpayers use to pay the taxes during the last days,” Stela Gutu said. She also said that many taxpayers paid the property tax beforehand, by June 30, and benefited from the 15 reduction provided in the Fiscal Code. According to the last analysis carried our by State Main Tax Inspectorate, this year the reductions totaled about 15 million lei, as against 13 million lei in 2008. The analysis shows that the private individuals are more willing to pay the property tax in advance. This year they were exempted from paying 5.6 million lei, up 1.5 million lei from 2008. “The paying of the property tax beforehand is an advantage not only for the taxpayers, but also for the local public authorities as they can uniformly distribute the revenues and cover the planned expenses,” Gutu said. The property tax collections in 2007 totaled 226 million lei, while in 2008 – 262 million lei.
