Anticorruption officers carried out searches in the office of the director of the Civil Aviation Authority Iurie Armas, who is investigated for misuse of power, IPN reports.
According to the press officer of the National Anticorruption Center Angela Starinschi, the officers seized a number of documents from Armas’ office. He is now investigated as a suspect, but will be soon charged.
On May 6, the prosecution body of the National Anticorruption Center carried out a search at the Civil Aviation Authority. It was determined that public servants of the Authority in February converted 3 million lei from the institution’s account into euros, which then cost 28 lei per euro. The damage caused to the state due to the difference in the exchange rates amounted to over 800,000 lei.
The director faces 6 to 10 years in jail and a ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
