Searches at NIA chief are carried out following press reports, NIA

The measures taken by anticorruption prosecutors today at the home of the head of the National Anticorruption Authority (NIA) and at the institution’s head office form part of the investigations launched following information that appeared in the public sphere, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the institution.

According to NIA, the deeds of which the NIA head and the institution are suspected were verified in 2020 and 2021 by other inspection bodies, such as the Court of Auditors and the Technical Surveillance Agency. These didn’t identify violations. Rodica Antoci hasn’t been charged within the started criminal case. The NIA and its chief cooperated with prosecutors and provided these with all the necessary documents.

The NIA also said that Rodica Antoci is at her office and fulfills her duties.

Searches were carried out at the home of NIA president Rodica Antoci in the morning of January 27.  The information was confirmed for IPN by the press officer of the Persecutor General’s Office Mariana Cherpec. She provided no other details.

At the end of last month, the press reported that the NIA head is suspected of unjust enrichment. An anonymous letter said that Rodica Antoci committed a series of illegalities in the process of managing the institution’s funds. Then the NIA denied those assertions. Also in December, Rodica Antoci stated that the members of her family were threatened and she informed the responsible authorities about this. She expressed her conviction that the pressure exerted on her family is related to her job and came from persons suspected of unjust enrichment.
