The police on May 18 carried out 23 searches within three criminal cases involving employees of the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service of the Ministry of the Interior. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the searches were performed at the homes and offices of the suspects, IPN reports.
In the first case, employees of the Service are suspected of asking for 100,000 lei from five persons who illegally ran a currency exchange facility in Briceni town for not holding them accountable. The same day, the suspects received US$4,000.
In the second case, the suspects asked for €3,000 for not instituting legal proceedings against a foreign citizen who transported boat engines from Chisinau to Balti over alleged smuggling and transportation of goods without documents of origin.
The third case was started over illegal distribution of heroine by an illegal group that involved employees of the aforementioned Service.
The suspects continue to be investigated. More information about the given cases will be provided later.
