“Scut” police officers ensure public order near Palace of the Republic

Employees of the Ministry of the Interior were mobilized to the Palace of the Republic to ensure the smooth running of the presidential elections. The head of the Ministry’s General Police and Public Order Division Marian Maxian has told Info-Prim Neo that a sufficient number of police officers were involved, but did not given an exact figure. A metallic fence was placed around the Palace of the Republic. Police officers of the special regiment “Scut” will monitor the situation until the last person goes out of the Palace of the Republic. Former Minister of the Interior Victor Catana stated for Info-Prim Neo that about 1 000 veterans of the Nistru war and the Afghan war are staging a peaceful protest in support of the presidential elections in front of the Palace of the Republic. The veterans will serve as a protection shield if sympathizers of the Communist Party appear there. Catana also said that another 1 000 veterans are yet to come. The Communist opposition scheduled large-scale protests for March 16, when elections will be held in Parliament to vote in the President of Moldova.
