Sculeni border crossing point to be modernized

The Sculeni border crossing point is to be modernized. During a field visit, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița asked that common checkpoints should be set up at border crossing points by the end of March so as to fluidize traffic and avoid congestion, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

The modernization works will be performed as part of the project “Rehabilitation and modernization of border crossing points on the Romania – Moldova border, custom posts Albița - Leușeni, Sculeni - Sculeni and Giurgiulești – Giurgiulești”. The project to the value of €10 million is financed by the EU and co-financed by the two states.

At the Sculeni border crossing point, the administrative building will be revamped and new pavilions will be built there. The number of lanes will be increased, a scanning platform will be constructed and the water supply and sewerage system will be rehabilitated.

“By investing in the infrastructure of this border crossing point, we will improve the services provided for the people. For us, the comfort of the citizens and the efficient functioning of state institutions are a priority,” stated Natalia Gavrilița.

The official today took part in the inauguration of a new phytosanitary and sanitary-veterinary checkpoint for agrifood products of animal and non-animal origin at the Sculeni border crossing point. This was outfitted with modern equipment at a cost of over 15 million lei.
