SCP initiates assessment of work of suspended prosecutor general

The Superior Council of Prosecutors on November 11 took note of President Maia Sandu’s request to start an assessment of the work done by currently suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo and ordered to initiate the assessment, IPN reports.

The Council instructed to constitute a commission for assessing the prosecutor general’s work.

President Maia Sandu requested the Superior Council of Prosecutors to start an assessment of Alexandr Stoianoglo’s job as prosecutor general. Under the law, if the assessment commission finds the results to be negative, the Superior Council of Prosecutors can recommend the President to dismiss the prosecutor general.

Meanwhile, Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is suspended from office while under investigation on charges of abuse of office, perjury and facilitation of crime, remains under house arrest. Stoianoglo denies any wrongdoing.
