The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) partially accepted the request made by former acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu concerning the issuing of the warrant for the detention, forced bringing and searching of the judge of the Supreme Court of Justice Oleg Sternioală, IPN reports.
As a result of deliberations, the acting president of the SCM Dorel Musteață said the request was partially accepted by seven votes for and one against. Also, the SCM authorized the searching and forced brining of Oleg Sternioală for unjust enrichment.
By the same decision, Sternioală was suspended from the post of judge and from the administrative post. The SCM decision can be challenged in the Chisinau City Appeals Court within 15 days.
Oleg Sternioală was arrested on November 4 over money laundering in considerable amounts, but was freed in the courtroom. The judges rejected the prosecutors’ request to place him under arrest for 30 days. The decision was appealed by anticorruption prosecutors as unfounded.
The Chisinau City Appeals Court on November 12 suspended the Superior Council of Magistracy’s judgment by which the Supreme Court of Justice judge Oleg Sternioală was deprived of immunity.
