SCM issues statement after MP Lilian Carp described judges as ignoble and corrupt

The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) issued a statement to defend the dignity of the participants in the General Assembly of Judges, at the proposal of SCM member from among non-judges Alexandru Postica, after PAS MP Lilian Carp described the judges as ignoble and corrupt. The MP made such statements in Parliament the day the judges had their General Assembly, IPN reports.

According to Alexandru Postica, the use of pejorative remarks about an undetermined number of participants in the General Assembly of Judges is inappropriate for a person holding a public post. Such statements can give birth to manipulations and speeches that incite hatred against the whole judicial system and each judge apart.

The SCM should condemn any threat and pressure against the judiciary and the SCM and its representatives. If there are disciplinary deviations or acts of corruption, the legislation offers possibilities of informing the Judicial Inspectorate or the bodies responsible for corruption fighting of these.

Through its statement, the Council requested MP Lilian Carp to review his behavior, to say if he has information demonstrating that some of the judges committed acts of corruption and to notify the competent bodies.

In the same meeting, SCM member Ion Guzun proposed adopting another statement referring to the judge of the Supreme Court of Justice Anatolie Țurcan, who interrupted the speeches of SCM members Nina Cernat and Ion Guzun at the General Assembly of Judges, using insults and behaving inappropriate. He informed that he notified the Judicial Inspectorate of Anatolie Țurcan’s behavior.
