The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) has announced a new contest to select a Constitutional Court judge after the contest announced earlier failed, IPN reports.
The Council set a 30-day period for submissions. Candidates can submit the files to Chisinau, 5 Mihai Eminescu St or to the email aparatul@csm.md until August 12 inclusive.
The contest to choose a candidate for the post of judge of the Constitutional Court failed after none of the candidates garnered the necessary number of votes. The contest initially involved 16 candidates, but Socialist candidate for MP on behalf of the Electoral Bloc of the Communists and the Socialists Vasile Bolea was excluded for the reason that he didn’t meet the conditions to apply for this post. Among the candidates for the post of CC judge were university lecturer Alexandru Arseni, several lawyers and the president of the Chisinau City Court Radu Țurcanu.
The Constitutional Court has six judges who are appointed for a six-year term. Two of the judges are named by Parliament, two by the Government and two by the Superior Council of Magistracy. The post of a judge nominated by the SCM fell vacant following the death of Eduard Ababei.
