SCJ refuses to move case of Shor from Cahul Appeals Court

The Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) rejected the request of Ilan Shor’s lawyers to transfer the conviction case against the former president of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii from the Cahul Appeals Court to another appeals court as unfounded. The decision is irrevocable, IPN reports.

Earlier in September, the lawyers asked to move the case, invoking deviations from the legislation committed by the court based in Cahul. Since then, a number of hearings were put off as the case was at the SCJ.

The Chisinau City Court in June 2017 sentenced Ilan Shor to seven years and a half in jail for causing considerable damage to the state by swindle and abuse of trust. The same day, Ilan Shor was released from house arrest and was placed under judicial control until a definitive sentence is passed. In February 2018, the case was transferred to the Cahul Appeals Court.

In June 2019, immediately after the PDM conceded power, Ilan Shor disappeared from the public sphere. A criminal case over illegal leaving of the country was started against him. On August 15, 2019, Ilan Shor was deprived of parliamentary immunity.
