Scientific conference on theory of art is held in Chisinau
The Scientific Conference “Theatre at Crossroad of Centuries”, dedicated to the to the 80th birth anniversary of the renowned Moldovan theatre critic and historian Leonid Cemortan, is held today in Chisinau.
According the Head of Theatrology Division of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Victoria Fedorenco, the conference brings together researchers, theatre theoreticians, art critics and directors from Moldova, Romania and Russia who are pointing out in their presentations the historical role of the theatre but also the the contribution of Leonid Cemortan to the development of the theatre in Moldova.
One of the conference’s guests is theatre theoretician Anastasia Efremov, the daughter of the well-known Russian actor Oleg Efremov. Anastasia Efremov told a press conference that she will be happy to meet the Moldovan critic and that she brought him a present – the Memory Album, printed on the occasion of her late father’s 80th anniversary. Anastasia Efremov also remarked that this is her first scientific conference and her presentation will be focused on theatre as a multinational unit.
When speaking about the global problem of the theatre, Anastasia Efremov pointed out that they do not refer to dramaturgy or the actors’ performance but rather to the moral attitude of the directors. There are enough places for entertainment and laugh in the world. The theatre should remain the sanctuary where the person can meditate, suffer and feel alongside the actors, the Russian critic explained.
Leonid Cemortan is a specialist in history and theory of the theatre, doctor in art studies (1994), university professor (1995), and corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (1995). He wrote 4 monographs and articles on the history of the theatre in different encyclopaedias. He contributed to the foundation of “Vasile Alecsandri” Theatre in Balti (1957) and “Luceafarul” in Chisinau (1960). Leonid Cemortan was awarded numerous prizes and distinctions, including the Award of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Order of the Republic.
