Schools short of 700 teachers
By August 17, the preparation of pre-university education institutions for the school year 2012-2013 will be finished, under a decision adopted by the Government, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Government recommends the Ministers that have subordinated education institutions and the local public authorities to coordinate the activity of these institutions regarding the filling of classes/groups, to keep a strict registry of children aged between 7 and 16 and to find solutions to provide meals for children in the first four grades.
One of the provisions of the decision refers to allotting compensations to young specialists employed and deployed in education institutions in rural areas.
Minister of Education Maia Sandu said that the institutions are 70% ready for the new school year and the classrooms are 90% prepared.
“We need 700 more teachers to ensure a quality education process. We’ll wait to see how many of the young teachers employed will show up on September 1”, she said.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that he discussed the issue of supplying teachers for the schools, especially those in rural areas, at this recent meeting with principals.
“We need to think together how to attract youth in schools and in pedagogical faculties. It’s a hard task we must do with concerted efforts”, said Filat.
