Schools in Moldova to be endowed with additional 2 thousand computers

Two thousand computers will be installed in 182 schools in Moldova by late February. 130 computers of this lot will be distributed to lyceums and secondary schools in the capital, the rest of them will be installed in raions, the Ministry of Information Development announces. The Government has granted in this respect 2 mln lei from the reserve Fund. Also, the Ministry of Education and Youth (MEY) will contribute in this regard granting financial means from its budgetary allocations. The project designed to implement the information and communications technology in the education system will extend in other 14 lyceums in towns and villages: three lyceums in Chisinau and Gagauzia and two lyceums in Orhei, Calarasi, Cahul and Drochia raions. The SALT Programme, initiated in 2004 at the Moldovan President’s proposal, is aiming to computerise and connect to the Internet all the schools. According to the MEY data, more than 860 computer classes, totalling 11 546 computers, opened in the country’s schools at present. The Law on state Budget for 2007 provides MDL 27 mln to financially support the implementation of the SALT Programme.
