The school year in the settlements located in the Security Zone has started with problems, as the Tiraspol regime forbade Moldovan schools to fly the national flag and play the national anthem, among other things, the human rights organization Promo-LEX reported. The NGO said in a press release that these incidents amount to human rights violations and called on the Moldovan authorities to identify effective instruments to guarantee human rights in the region. In recent days Promo-LEX was alerted by parents and teachers at schools in the Transnistrian region that the problems for the children and the teachers have reappeared. The freedom of movement, which was promised by the new administration in Tiraspol, is not ensured for this category of people, the schools didn't receive their buildings back, and persecutions and threats against the school administrations have continued. On September 3 when the schools in the Transnistrian region held festivities to mark the beginning of the school year, the events were attended and watched by agents of the regime's paramilitary forces. Some schools were warned on the day before festivities not to hoist the Moldovan flag and play the national anthem. Constantin Sucitu, the principal of the Corjova school, expressed his indignation at the illegal restrictions imposed by the region's administration, noting that the students have every right to know the symbols of the country in which they were born and be able to look at them without fear. “It is regrettable that it has been many years since the Moldovan tricolor cannot be hoisted both at the beginning and at the end of the school year”, said the principal. Promo-LEX has noted in its press release that the rights of the Transnistrian region's residents, which are guaranteed by the Constitution and international law, are not negotiable and cannot be subject to political negotiation and interpretation.
