School psychologists may be concentrated in specialized centers

Specialized centers may be created for the psychologists working in schools. A relevant bill is being drafted by the Ministry of Education, Lucia Savca, director of the Education and Correction Center “Armonie”, has told Info-Prim Neo. The center is managed by the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport. “If this law is implemented, it will be beneficial to the district centers where there is a low number of students. But the situation in towns is different. A psychologist has to deal with about 1 400 students and individual work is needed with every problematic child,” Lucia Savca said during discussions held at the center. According to her, the legislation says there should be by a psychologist in every school, but the new bill of the Ministry of Education will make the children’s access to psychological services more difficult. Veronica Vrabie, psychologist at a school in Chisinau, said the psycho-pedagogical services must be accessible in every education institution. “Evidently, we face different problems. Besides the salaries that are lower than 2,000 lei, we do not have teaching aid and relevant information. I’m glad that we receive consultancy and advice at this center,” she stated. Lucia Savca said 30-50 children come to the center every month. The center has four psychologists, a psychiatrist and a logopedist who help the children to correct their behavior and to cope with their problems.
