School fair held 'for last time' in Chisinau
This is the last year when a school fair is held in the center of the capital. The reasons are the destruction of the green spaces and of the pitch and the waste left by the stall holders. The announcement was made by Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu during the City Hall's meeting on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Deputy Mayor, although the Municipality gave in this year, it will not happen again in future. “We won’t allow all kinds of fairs in the Cathedral Square anymore. The Square has another destination and we must keep it for tourism, not trade. We must tell the people and others that this is the last year when the school fair takes place in the center of the capital”, said the Deputy Mayor.
Head of the general division for trade, catering and services Vladimir Nirca said that initially Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca ordered that fairs should be organized only in the city’s districts, but then allowed the fair in the Cathedral Square, on Puskin St as well, this time only for local producers.
“The division received 320 requests from companies, of which only 42 were from local producers. We had to accept everyone’s request because companies complained to the City Hall that we don’t offer them trading spaces. I want to stress that organizing this kind of fair in the center of the capital is more than we can handle”, said Vladimir Nirca.
According to Nirca, the companies what trade in the nearby mall complained about unfair competition because the prices of goods are the same, but the rent is lower at the fair – a monthly 89 lei per sq. meter compared to 1555 lei in the mall.
