School faces winter without heat

The vocational school no.3 in Chisinau’s Ciocana district risks remaining without heat this winter because of the disagreements between the heat distributor Termocom SA and the city authorities. Even though the Chisinau City Council apportioned 1.44 million lei to start the work on an autonomous heating system for this establishment, sources within the City Hall informed that the designing works will be complete no earlier than on December 1, while the system’s construction will start next spring at best. On the other hand, Termocom sales director Mihai Arusoi says the pipes connecting the educational establishment with the district heating system are severely damaged, rendering the provision of heat impossible this winter. Furthermore, Arusoi expressed much indignation at the fact that the City Council decided to build an autonomous heating system inside the school instead of giving money for the restoration of the old piping. He pointed out that the heating charge set by the City Council is too low for the distributor to afford such repairs. The school was left without heat supply after a portion of the piping that was passing through private property was demolished. The city councilmen decided that an autonomous heating system would be a more cost-saving measure than the restoration of the old system. The Council promised to increase expenses for the project.
