Seven months into this year, the number of scarlatina cases registered in Chisinau municipality amounted to 224, as compared to 68 cases recorded in the similar period last year, the Chisinau Public Health Center said in a press release, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. In 99% of the cases the disease was developed by children, with the most affected age group being 3 to 6 years. Instead of seeing a doctor immediately after symptoms appear, in 78% of the cases the sufferers sought professional medical help only on the 2nd to the 4th day since the onset, leading to a late isolation of the infection source and thus an increased risk for those in contact with the infected persons to develop the disease.
