Scanner at Ocnița railway checkpoint to start work by this yearend

The scanner at the Ocnița railway checkpoint, which is one of the most modern scanners existing on the market, will start work by this yearend. The equipment is intended for controlling goods transported by train, IPN reports, quoting the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova.

The scanner was donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China as part of an assistance project. In the framework of the same project, the Chisinau International Airport customs post in May was outfitted with a scanner for inspecting check-in baggage.

During an inspection, the Customs Service’s head Vitalie Vrabie said the partnership with the Chinese side considerably helps the Customs Service to improve the customs’ institutional capacities in the field of anti-fraud. “Owing to this equipment, we will more efficiently prevent and fight smuggling and other frauds that can affect the economic and transfrontier security in the region,” he stated.

The project is implemented based on an intergovernmental agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China that was signed on July 10, 2013 and an exchange of notes between the governments of the two states.

The first stationary scanner was donated by the People’s Republic of China in 2015 and this was installed at the Leușeni customs post.
